What's your view on the present state of Hip Hop?

Personally, hip-hop has always been about creation, more or less taking it to another level.Although, lately I haven't seen to many strides to create with the exception of a choosen few. I guess the big question is who do you feel has try to make an impact toward keeping the tradition alive and who hasn't?

I think there are alot of key play in the persuit of continuing the legacy of hip hop. Mos and Talib have made a very heaqvy impact. Kanye West proved to us we can be successful and do real hip hop. "Honestly"

I feel that a lot of mainstream rappers aren't trying to keep the tradition alive. I know that Nas made a huge statement when he said hip hop is dead however that album wasn't really classic like previous albums. He did try to make a change but to me, that album was alright and it's hard to make a change with an alright album. Mos Def and Talib has changed in my eyes, that last good album that I've heard from Mos (in my opinion) was Black on Both Sides. Talib's (in my opinion) Quality. Common came with a nice comeback album with Be. Kanye maybe but his character is in question to me, he's high on his horse but I like his beats (not many on his albums but on others) and I don't like his rappin, he might say a few things here and there but I need more consistency. Like AZ, Big L, etc...What I do like about Kanye even though I don't really like his albums, I like that he's different and people don't accept different these days so that makes me optimistic about the future because different can be accepted but he's like the only artist that does that of his stature. On the bright side i feel that it IS time for a change and I am obviously not the only one who feels like this, I know that a lot of people are tired of the BS that's on the radio and wants a breath of fresh air...with Hip Hop being everchanging I think that it will go back to that real shit we love because we just want to hear good music I mean genuine good music...on the radio...I don't really see anyone on the commercial level making an effort to keep Hip Hop alive, on a mainstream and underground yes, but not commercial and when I say commercial I mean big money artist not the terrible music...

It seems as if the more time passes, the more it becomes "uncool" to be real Hip-Hop.

It is really diverse and there are different sounds everywhere. The culture has definitely changed a lot. True hip hop still exist to me in my opinion, but there has definitely been some changes to how it is projected through the media. A lot of people think that hip hop is just rap music. Not a lot of people understand the culture. True hip hop is almost like a religion and lifestyle not a bandwagon to be cool and claim that you are something you are not. Peace to all!!

Well, Angelina to be more specific. The music has become a regurgitation of someone else's efforts.
It's easier to copy or mimic something. But a true sign of talent is to be different or create a new form. At least thats what I've always known to be.
