yo...i like to network with people and all that but we have some lines that are real blurry to me when it comes to Promoting material.
1. why promote your agenda to another artist without asking first?
2. why do people blindly ask you to peep thier music and write it in a mass email format so you can TELL that it wasnt specifically tailored to gather your attention?
3.why not wait till you have a rapor built with a certain artist, or strike up convo in a genuine format??
the thing i see with "new" Hip Hop, is that everyone basically does it, and nobody has the first idea of how to actually market themselves to consumers beyond Myspace bulletins...
rock shows..get out of the crib..pay some dues...dont sit back all lazy and shit and spam bomb everyone in your list about your LP coming out unless those people are consumers.
im not gonna buy or check out anyones shit unless i know them or get to know them so mu'fucks can really stop with the sending me thier show information and lp drop dates..i could give a fuck less if i dont know you.
if i have the chance i will take it back to 83 on you and battle you before i sit and listen to your new joints all day.
imo find people who want to BUY and focus on networking face to face with other artists...you look corny to me when i get a spam ad in my box for an LP which is basically competition for MY lp space
we talked about this before Chuck and i feel the same way....
you know how it is with artists. they may have a click of dudes gassing their heads up about how the game is and etc. and just do wack shit like spam everyone's pages. me, i ignore most of it. the most i'd ever do as far as spam is just add somone and you have the right to reject me if you don't like what you heard or if you're not feeling how i'm coming across. i usually read people's stuff then add them (even if it is for split a sceond). for the most part, if add you then i must want to make a connection with you in some manner. be it music or not.
Too bad most people don't think like that. I mean, I market online for all ten artists on my label and the amount of spam really makes me wanna smack the fuck outta people sometimes. I mean, I know marketing is a job for some folks, but at least aim at your target audience and stop sendin' "Grow Your Cock" ads to niggas with big dicks! Talk about a total waste of a lot of people's time.
You answered your own questions there... The reason people do it is because nobody is a fan anymore... but the people who stay on that shit should stick to being fans, because they don't know what they're doing. On the flipside, I find it hilarious when I add someone and they say, "Thanks for the add... hope you liked the music" like I added them to hear THEIR music. When I get a friend request from another artist, I'm not naive enough to think they added me because they were interested in my shit either. It is what it is.
THIS IS WHY IM ON THIS SITE. CHUCK I NEVER HEARD OF YOU BUT YOUR COMMENT SEEMS AS IF WE WENT TO STARBUCKS AND SAT THERE DRINKING THAT SHIT AND CHOPPIN IT UP. WHAT IM SAYNIG IS YOU ARE SO RIGHT I TOLD MY HOMIE THE OTHER DAY WHY I YOU BRINGING ME A COPY OF YOUR ALBUM TAKE THAT SHIT TO THE HIGHSCHOOL OR THE MALL NOT ME CAUSE I'LL ONLY BE A CONSUMER WHEN I SEE YOU GRIDIN JUST LIKE ME THEN WHEN YOU POP I'LL SAY DAMN I USED TO CHAT IT UP WITH HOMIE ON THE RAWKUS SITE OR ON THE YOU NO WHAT SPACE (I WONT SAY IT FOR PAYS SAKE)
Only tim you catch me sending out ads for my shit is when ive had a request or a comment from someone....you get alot of cats on here that do that shit..
Agree 100%, I flew under the wing of a veteran DJ/producer. Homie showed me how easy it was to talk to people and market yourself. To me Rawkus and Myspace are like a free billboard of myself. Everyone can see me, if they like it then cool. My problem with these sites is the blind friend requests.
I mean in all honesty i dont think i spam....do I???? LOL I actually take a good listen to peoples music read your bio and find out whats going on with the artist. Im more trying to reach out to the Rawkus 50 fam. THese guys are making history and i think we could only strengthen things by collaborating and talking with each other....learning some things from each other. I feel you Chuck....but after the comments i left on your page i had to throw something about our album on there LOL. Not trying to do any harm to what you got going on but i just always put that tag on my rawkus messages. Peace and respect fam.
