So I seen Souls of Mischief last night..

Shit was dope, of course! While I was observing when they began to perfrom ''93 til Infinity'' and had my attention caught on the year. 1993. 14 years ago. Now I myself and 21 and maybe, damn, spit my first rhyme back when I was 14 or so. 7 years I been rhyming now. OK, I wouldn't let anyone hear the shit I was spitten back then, because of course..shit was wack when your first getting your motor broken in!!

Now fast froward to my current rhyme form and shit is pretty solid. BUT, I still don't think the songs I make today are songs I would want to perform 14 years from now. What I'm trying to say is for these ''old school'' cats to be spitting rhymes they wrote, when they were minors, 14 years later is amazing. I mean it truly stands the test of time. Do you honestly think that they knew the 20 min. rhyme they wrote would be performed over-and-over for so long and stay strong.

Imagine KRS-One (now probably in his late 30's early 40's) performing a song he wrote when he was 18!!!

Now looking in the past tells me something. Whatever song I make today BETTER be a song I would want to perform 20 years from now, that I, and my fans would not get sick of. ALSO one that stays relevant. I could come up with punches for days about Britney Shears and her pandemonium, but do you think the next generation is gonna connect with it?!? No way.

Anyways, just some thoughts.

I think you are in a real good spot if you are 21 and you are forward thinking like that. I prefer to not think about it, make records and the ones that will be relevant 10 years from now will show up then...

Protoman, you know Glad2Mecha??

That's one of the best truths about music. Time will let the
great ones stand.

Interesting take. I think that it wouldn't matter how dope my track was to people...I would be sick of it in 20 years. Hell, I perform a joint for a month and I'm ready to move on to the next one. lol. I agree with Span though...make good records and let the rest of the chips fall where they may in the future. Typically the tracks I enjoy the most aren't always the ones that get the most love anyway. Funny how that works.

Yeah..... you have the right mind state and that will cary you a long way in the business.... I'm 34 and proud to say it...... Been in the Source Unsigned hype in 96' (No Promo) and realized that now I can say rhymes I did back then and feel that lyrical I could squash over half of these industry cats with a 16 from 94'.... It was a mind state then and it is one now.. So keep doing what you're doing, trust me, a legacy is not what you look forward to, it's what you leave behind!
