The only reason I am able to make music is because of super awesome big-ballin software.
My music starts with an idea I would like to make ________
1) a remix of that song I just heard or using that sound I just heard Cool edit (adobe now owns it) to format the audio from MP3/WAV/DVD/AVI into hit samples or 1,2, or 4 bar loops
Some people use sound forge to do this. or cake walk
-but now I need bangin beats, fills ,base lines, and other instruments in the song. Reason3 to make hit or loops of any sort, (but mainly Beats in my case) and I have a ton of Reason refills I used to use Fruity Loops
some people use Magic or Acoustica software but I found that that magic and acoustica took all the creativity out of the song and made it where I using premade loops for everything so screw that
-but now I need a way to mix my beat and other instrument loops I made with the samples from the concept Ableton or Protools layer the music I made in reason3 with the samples I edited into existence in Cool edit
Some people use Acid Cool edit and Qbase also have track view mixing but I'm not sure how well they do warping (tmpo matching) but Ableton, Protools and Acid excell in that how ever
-but now I want to record vocals on the instrumental track I just made
again Ableton or Protools just depends on where I am I do not yet own protools, but if anyone has the hook up on the M-power version let me know, if I'm away from my home studio ussualy I am working on Protools
Some people use Cool edit or Qbase bassicly all these programs can give you a good product but some do alot more then other so it just depends on your level of software knowledge as to what you work best with
-but now I want to mix down and master my track add fadeout on the end and maybe adjust the EQ
again Ableton or Protools just depends on where I am I do not yet own protools, but if anyone has the hook up on the M-power version let me know, if I'm away from my home studio ussualy I am working on Protools
Some people use Cool edit or Qbase bassicly all these programs can give you a good product but some do alot more then other so it just depends on your level of software knowledge as to what you work best with. I just copied and pasted the same stuff from the recording step
-but now I want to make the song into MP3s so I can use it on the internet or maybe leave it as WAV and put it on a CD Cool edit is a fast program that does what you want with verry little effort especially wil audio file format conversion, Sound forge Also is great at audio file format conversion, and is great at normallizing song-song dB levels and mixing track-track to get a smoth transition from song to song for audio CDs, and burns audio CDs with audio playback in mind (better then nero or Roxio)

2) The music I hear in my head that noone else can hear yet cause I have not made it.
Reason3 plus reason refills I make the whole beat from start to finish with an intro, progression, drops, climaxes, with out using samples at all
And there is tons of higher-end software out there that I have never even heard of, anybody have any recomendations of new software I should check out.
This is just my personal opinion, but it's not that serious. I don't know, maybe time will tell, but I don't see any reason why you should straight up abandon FL for Reason. Gradually moving up, blah, whatever you want to call it, sure. But I've seen some people do some amazing things with FL. I'm not about to lie and say that I'm at that point, because I'm not. I only have a year down with it [not even that really]. But I think it's more about knowing what you have, how to use it, when to apply it, etc.
I think people chose not to give FL the time of day: 1) because of the name. Very few folks will take a program seriously that once went by "Fruity Loop"; the ish doesn't even sound serious, 2) the appearance is rather childish at times, 3) it doesn't have the number of default sounds or quality, because I think they were aiming for something that doesn't take up an ish load of space and suck up tons of CPU, 4) I think alot of folks push it aside too because 98% of folks you meet don't have it legit so people just associate it with the 90% of people you meet who claim they make beats and you can tell that they don't take it seriously and they're just doing it to pass the time, so folks just avoid it to avoid being perceived as one of those people.
As for the other stuff, expandability is great with FL. Find some Wav files that suite you, some extra effects (I use the Waves bundle myself), whatever, whatever, and I don't see how your beats will be any different than if you used anything else.
Me, personally, I like stereo quality of Reason's strings, pianos, guitar, etc. Their drums sounds are alright I guess. I have been given alot of sounds, so I don't really fool with their drums much. I prefer sequencing and mixing in FL though [I can use my 3rd party effects and stuff].
Personal preference all in all, but I'm not about to sit here and tell you to completely dump FL.
YA man. I'v used FL a few times at my peoples crib. I dont like the tools that are in it, and dont like the sound to DIGI for me. You have to do maad tweeking to get the sound how you want it to get that analog feel. If you know wut i mean. If you do get that REASON 3.0 hit me up i'll put you on to some site's. GET ready for REASON 4, it looks DOPE. PEACE.
FL is very adaptable to most any stlye cause you can browse to new WAV files and in essence make your own samples and produce limitlessly, Reason can do this too only better infact Reason does what FL does only better in every way and way more. but if all you have is FL you can get by.
