WHEN was the first time and Where were you inspired by HIP-HOP?
We're sorry, but this discussion has just been closed to further replies.
AS for me; Digging threw records back in NOV 95 and found this Death-row classic and just took me to another level...in understanding this world around me. Later on that day a friend of mine went missing and wrote down a few of those lyrics; which I placed on the wall where we drew our expressions "the world is ours, so play in it"...
8th grade trip to boston. First cd I bought was common's like water for chocolate. Had the shit on repeat the whole way back. Made me want to really get into learning about the culture itself
i FEEL OLD old like a jedi. hip hop hit me the summer of 88 when my dad bought me dj jazzy jeff and the fresh prince rock the house and Heavy D big tyme and a red radio shack walkman things never sounded the same ever again
My Uncle's girlfriend had left some tapes in the house. 1 said 'Kandi's mix', and it had Chic, Tina Turner, Sheila E, and the Fat Boys, the song "The Fat Boys are back'.
That was it. I was a little kid, like 1st grade, when I used to wear red corduroy pants. 87-88?
You what...wanted to be prince!!!!!!!1NOW that's a first in my book. I for my self I wouldn't mind asking him a few questions on his musical background and then place some time in the studio!!!!! NOW that'll be cool
mid-80s in my apartment complex, the "big kids" were blastin Run DMC out the boombox while they flipped on a mattress by the dumpster. I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I went over to my grandmother's house who had cable & saw Yo! MTV Raps & the love affair began...
I'll never forget it ... 1986, I was 11 yrs old and I got a cassette tape single of "Eric B Is President" from my cuz in NJ... It was a wrap... Changed my life....
I dont got a specific moment where I remember I fell in love with hiphop.
I know it's somewhere in the 80's. My dad always got these "mixtapes" every month from his job, don't even ask why, but it had the freshest songs on there. I lived with those tapes, it had everybody on there.
Sugarhill Gang, LL Cool J, Doug E Fresh, Spoonie G, Slick Rick etc. Get Fresh Crew and Rock Steady Crew were my inspiration as I danced (as I literally "breakdanced", breakin' my moms shit in the house while dancing...) in front of the mirror with my hairbrush in my hand LOL
Not to mention that I started fuckin' around with my dad's equipment from age 1.
I had a lot of serious beatdowns from daddy because of me always messin with his buttons and stuff. LOL
