PRIME MINISTER OF THE PENINSULA: AN ELDER TO THESE YOUNG BOYS. YOUR FAVORITE RAPPER KNOWS ME.CHARLESTON'S HUEY NEWTON,GORILLAGUERILLA,PALMMETAL,S4......what?!!!!!!!!......................................OOOOOH, I'M SO THROWBACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Born in 1971 on the historically Black, Eastside of Charleston(THE PANTHER'S LAIR), where I resided until 1980.-who remembers Saint John Center? I WAS THERE-remember Mr. Green, who looked lke Bill Cosby? -who remembers the Martin Park Festivals?-how about the yearly block party on Mall Park?-or THE C.A.BROWN MARCHING BAND coming down America street?SEE, KID, I'M OLD CHARLESTON. TROLLEY TRACKS STILL IN THE STREETS...............................................................................................................FROM 1980 to 1984 we resided on the upper westside of the peninsula on THE DRIVE(Who remembers the Heart Foundation?)With the onset of Reaganomics as the backdrop and the pounding drums of hip-hop as my soundtrack, I learned all about the evils of the streets there.................................................................................................................In 1984 we moved again to Percy Street, in the heart of the B.I.(bad influence) located in midtown Charleston. There, along with Ken(my 1st DJ), Wendell, and August(beatbox), I began to really discover the trueness of hip-hop.UNDERSTAND-I came up in the Friday night church basement stompers of Downtown Charleston.-who remembers Father Clarie Hall? or the Charleston Inn? or The Christian Y? how about the Teenage Club? or Saturdays with The Grand Wizard and Focus on Magic 101.7?or Sundays on the Battery?SEE, I'VE BEEN HERE.................................................................................................................In 1986, I(MAD bomber) along with Waggie(Def-Cut) and Cory Bee(Phases),formed the still existent graf crew, MDK(moderndaykings)at Hip-Hop High aka Rivers Middle School................................................................................................................During the very early 90's I reconnected with old friends from Rivers, DedHedCed,Brice(BUTTERFINGERS),Cory Bee and Kool Kev to form THE DEADHEADS(dh's). We, along with other crews such as THE PHLAYVA, MAYHEM,and SKULLISTICS began to bring Hip-Hop back to the streets, clubs and radios of the Lowcountry. ............................................................................................................. Then in the late 90's, Hip-Hop and music in general drastically changed. In response to the monotony,I added spoken word poetry to my repertoire. During the city's 1998 Moja Art's Festival, city council member, Kwadjo Campbell, launched an open mic night @ LJ's on King St. This event went on weekly well into 2000. Through my weekly appearances as the Original LJ's House Poet, I was cast in several plays around the Lowcountry. One being Steve Estevez's "Three For The Game", in which I was oddly cast as the stereotypical young Charleston thug. . ...................................................................................................................Around this time, I along with Cory Bee and Slim Raw(EL-ALL-DAY),an upstart from BXNY(Hellbound), formed PalmMetal. Joining with various other local artists such as T-SQUARE,VEX,REALM, and Big Reg of BR RECORDS, we formed the PCC(Port City Committee). .................................................................................................In 2001, Harold Singletary, being advised by Quentin Baxter, recruited me to be a part of a new movement in Charleston, THE POETIC JAZZ SOCIETY. This was a collection of artists, rather visual, musical, or otherwise. The Mezzane on Tuesdays was our house. Poetic Jazz Society would open up for Quentin Baxter and Gradual Lean. This soon led to the Sunday evening event, JAZZMATAZZ, an evening of jazz, poetry, wine, art and networking. I was soon cast in a trilogy of plays presented by Sunn, a fellow member of THE POETIC JAZZ SOCIETY, at the College of Charleston's "string" of theatres: SCARECITY, DREAMS DEFERRED AND a tribute to hip-hop. ...............................................................................................The members of the PJ'S began to be in demand at other venues and events, such as the Moja Arts Festival and various clubs like 94.3FM's poetry nights. ...............................................................................................In 2003, on King Street right off of Line, under the overpass, GRIM began to experiment with beatmaking methods and the recording experience(opting for more of a deliberate unfinished feel)[THE LEAK TAPES]. HENCE YOU HAVE THE MUSIC PRESENTED. enjoy
