About Kas

Kas
33, Male
United States
Hometown:
Atlanta, GA (Temporarily in Anchorage, AK)
Relationship Status:
It's Complicated
About Me:
Hip Hop Culturalist

I just have always loved Hip-Hop. I fell in love way, way back when I lived in Cali and I first heard The Message by Grandmaster Flash & Furious Five. Then I heard "Eric B. is President" by Eric B & Rakim. It was over! I wanted to be an Emcee. I became a student of that late 80's early 90's Boom Bap Hip Hop... You know, back when Hip-Hop was fun and uncorrupted. It’s now known as the Golden Age or Era of Hip Hop from about 86 to 94 (94 is pushing it).
I moved from San Francisco, Ca. to Atlanta, Ga. back in 1990 and was determined to make it in the music business. I spent my summers up in Pomona, NJ where I met up with a young Rodney Jerkins. R.J. wasn’t the “super producer” he is today and we had to sneak into his older brother’s studio to make my first demo. To make a long story short, R.J. and I lost touch, I fell out of love with Hip-Hop as it started to morph into what it is today, and I joined the military in 1998. That’s where I am today… I currently serve in the US Air Force, stationed at Elmendorf AFB, Anchorage, Alaska. I’m here fighting wars and making music to stay sane!!!! I'm just a hobbiest Emcee trying to bring back some of that creativity we seem to have lost since the “Great Hip-Hop Paper Chase” began in the mid-90s. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!
Favorite TV Shows:
Boondocks, Journeyman, House, Heroes, Everybody Hates Chris, The Unit, Boston Legal, Law & Order's, Dateline, The First 48, CSI's, Dog Whisper, Grey's Anatomy, Sports Center, Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Good Times.... Just about anything on the Travel Channel, Animal Planet, National Geographic Channel, Discovery Channel, CNN, MSNBC, ESPN, & NFL Network...

Should we, as Hip Hoppas, be concerned about the direction our music and culture have taken?
